Save for a Vacation by Playing World of Warcraft?

From all the ways you would expect to save for a vacation this is one of the most surprising but also one that makes sense, if you're a gamer. Teens were asked if they played games how much do they spend on video games each month. The average amount was $65, approximately 1.5 new games per month. Teenagers that reportedly paid under $30 played the popular online mmorpg game World of Warcraft. It seems counter productive to saving that a game charges a membership fee of $15 but when analyzed it is actually far less a price to play to get your daily fix of game related entertainment.

Your b-day is almost here, soon you'll be ready to drive but you need a Vacation. If you were smart you were paying a small fee each month to enjoy the fresh content of the game World of Warcraft versus buying multiple games each month. Most gamers don't play the same game only 3 months later. After 6 it is guaranteed to collect dust for life. Think of a closest filled with 1.5 games each month multiplied by the number of months you have been a gamer for. We are talking at least 300 games for some seasoned veterans of the game industry. That can add up to 15,000 dollars! Granted this can't be looked at as a complete wash because this is part of your budget for entertainment expenses which you would otherwise probably spent on pizza, movies, beer, or any other activity you get pleasure out of. The main point is the pleasure didn't have to be taken away but the amount of cash you would pay certainly can be!

Three years of playing World of Warcraft at 15 dollars each month comes to 540 dollars for 3 years played. That pales in comparison to the non subscirption based gamers that pay upwards of 2400 in that same amount of time. That's almost a 2k difference! Now who looks stupid for paying a subscription each month? Certainly that 2k difference can mean the difference between buying the hatchback or the drop top! Or a nice set of rims. I knew this long ago when online games with a subscription first came out. My friends would spend all their money on new games each month while I played Ultima Online for 9.99. When I was 17 my Nissan was pretty sweet. Now when you see a young kid on the street in a nice ride you know he is an mmorpg gamer ;).

Some downsides of course exist. You have to have an internet connection and a decent computer but these are usually fixed costs or costs you would otherwise already incur. Expansions and affilate content are usually too tempting to pass up. There are a myriad of expansions for Warcraft and any other game that has existed as long as it has but on the bright side they are usually bundled and priced down in a package form to help new-comers join the game without dropping some serious cash. T-shirts, guides, maps, programs and other costs are easily avoided but if you love the game enough you'll show your support at your local mall by wearing a For the Horde! T-shirt.

Now that you have saved some green your parents will surely know (think? Haha) that you are responsible and will never know it was because of a video game. They will kick in more money and you will be able to get the ride you want or at least one at all while your friends shoe leather express it. I recommend spending all your money on rims, haha j/k…keep it functional baby, cause that's all that matters when it's your first vacation. Keep in mind World of Warcraft isn't the only game you can apply this technique too…now console games are becoming more popular online I can see someone applying these principles to Call of Duty4 or even GTAIV. The idea is find a game with huge replay value that stays fresh each month but doesn't leave your wallet fresh out of cash. I'll see you in game and on the streets riding dirty!
